Make something

Do something with your hands. Create something from nothing. It could be knots, it could be whittling, Lego, cake or knitting. Take some time to get outside your head. Ideally, make something you have no idea how to do. Get something from Make and try it, assuming you’ll screw it up the first time. People love people who can make things. Making’s the new thinking. Share your things on the your blog, or, if you’re brilliant maybe you can share them on etsy.

here is my art, I have become a Lithographer. Click on the Jpegs to really see the litho detail, I am loving this stuff right now, it brings color and life from stone and aluminum through the powers of chemicals and a printing press.

I really like your art pieces. Also, you're right, all of us ought to create more. I think if we all tried different things knowing we'd be shitty at it the first couple times through and just embracing that, we'd find we were passionate about so much more than we realize. And etsy is the worlds most amazing website, and I adore it.

I am so envious of people who are able to create something out of nothing. There is nothing more daunting to me than a blank piece of paper and some artistic tools. Just to have that one idea or that one muse can create something so beautiful. What do you think that Botticelli was thinking when he sat down to paint La Primavera. I had the pleasure of seeing this amazing painting and I couldn't help but be inspired...maybe just in a different way.

Like Hannah, I wish I was able to create better, even though "better" is an arbitrary term. I know part of it is just taking the time to try and seeing what happens. I just always focus on making a creative-looking product and not the process of just being creative.
Also, your "For Bean with Love and Cancer" is beautiful.

Cori,

I'm so incredibly pleased at how these lithos shine brightly on your blog. Although it's a completely different experience than seeing them in person, the fact that they still read well online proves that the choices you made while creating the images are successful. I can clearly see the progression from your first piece to your last. It just goes to show that taking risks and exploring a new (and intimidating) medium can have outstanding results.
